What Does this vaginal Culture Result Mean?

i had a gc chlamydia, koh and vaginal culture done the other day. culture says this... Large Escheriachia coli confirmed. ESBL producing organisms mediate resistance to extended spectrum monobactams but do not affect cephamycins or carbapenems. what does that mean? Do I have to take IV antibiotics or is there an oral medication? Does this require a hospital stay?

Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

Well, as per your description of the microbiological culture/sensitivity test, you got vaginal infection due to Escherichia coli which are extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL) producing E. coli and only sensitive to cephamycins or carbapenems. There are oral antibiotics options also therefore you might not need hospitalization!

Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you early recovery!
